Bavarian Law Of Purity
Start
The Law Of Purity protects the quality of our beers for more than 500 years.
In April 1516 Duke Wilhelm IV. of Bavaria issued a law that for the production of beer only malt, hops, yeast and water are to be used.
So the Law Of Purity from 1516 is the oldest and valid up to the present day food law in the whole world.
With this law debasements have been prevented, chemical ore other additives have been forbidden. Lots of beers produced outside of Germany contain additives often beeing unhealthy and influence the taste of the beer in a negative way.
Even today the Law Of Purity is still up-to-date. In a time with food scandals on the headlines it grants an effective consumer protection: German beer contains no artificial aromas and no additives - only malt, hops, yeast and water.
